young brothers were among the three people killed on highway 92 in foster city. ktvu's tara moriarty joins us with more on this tragic crash, the victims and the investigation. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. three brothers from redwood city were in the car that flipped not far from where we're standing. they were 12 and 16 years old. now that third brother, who is 18 years old, is clinging to life. now, this all happened about ten minutes until 10:00 last night off highway 92. that time is important to remember because if you were driving in the eastbound direction near the foster city boulevard exit, the chp needs your help. officers are looking for witnesses because they still aren't sure exactly what caused the accident. initial reports say it was a hit and run. >> i don't know how many witnesses have called in but we do urge the public to call if anybody saw what happened. it will definitely assist us in the investigation. >> reporter: now, five people were inside that car. two pronounced dead at the scene. another died on the way to the hospital. it's not known h

people rushed to the hospital as we just got word that one of the passengers, they have died. ktvu alex savage is live for us, including the man hunt underway right now. alex? >> reporter: police at this point are looking for the driver of the suv, but i also want to tell you here that the sergeant on scene, they have confirmed toney a 19-year-old man was killed in this crash here. he was a passenger inside this stolen suv you're looking at right now. it was being chased this morning by chp officers. the suv was packed with eight people inside, coming down this hill when the driver lost control and slammed into a tree. here was the scene around 3:30 this morning here on the drive in oakland. paramedics transported six passengers with various injuries. one of them later died. the pursue all began when police tried topping this suv when the driver of the suv took off. chp officers picked up the pursuit on the freeway in oakland. it's unclear if alcohol was involved here, but the sergeant tells me that this suv was going dangerously fast. >> when you take these extreme measures to avoid on
on crime. ktvu's alex savidge is live for us in oakland and tells us the vote came after hundreds of speakers and a heated debate. >> reporter: well, hundreds of people spoke out on this controversial topic. there were four hours of public comment. the final vote didn't company until the morning. the council approved a consulting contract with bill bratton, a man whose past policing policies have come under fire. that vote angered many people in the audience. many in the crowd reacted strongly as the vote came down just after 2:00 this morning. ktvu had the only camera inside council chambers at the time. police moved in for a short time to maintain order. there were roughly 275 people who spoke at this lengthy council meeting. the council approved a contract with bratton's consulting firm on a 7-1 vote. bratton will help come in and help with a crime-fighting plan. critics are concerned about an apressive stop-and-frisk pomcy that -- aggressive stop-and- frisk policy that some worry could lead to racial profiling. this woman voted against this. >> a vote against this is not about
. that shooting happened at seminary and east 17th street last night shortly before 6:30. ktvu's alex savidge has been there since 4:30 this morning tells us police have been scouring the area for any signs of the suspects. alex? >> reporter: and good morning. i did just get off the phone a short time ago with a spokeswoman for the oakland police department who confirmed to me this is still a very active manhunt in the area. as i step out of the way, you can see the street is still blocked off. we're pushing you down seminary avenue. you can see the s.w.a.t. vehicle there. a number of others remain in the area trying to -- officer s remain there. they believe they have the suspects in the perimeter. they are still actively searching. the spokesperson said they've written search warrants to go inside homes as well. this began at 6:30 last night when an undercover police officer was shot and wounded during a stakeout operation. three gunmen were seen running off. police were able to take one of those men into custody. but two others escaped. throughout the night, officers were going through here wi
of the fire. stay tuned throughout county -- stay tuned to ktvu throughout the morning for more updates. >>> ktvu alex savidge just arrived on scene. what can you show us? what can you tell us? >> reporter: i can tell you this is a pretty good sized fire that is burning here at the lee high hanson cement plant. you can see a pretty good plume of black smoke that is coming up from this hillside here. there is workers driving by leaving the plant at this point. but you can see a lot of smoke there. what we understand is on fire is trucks of some kind. heavy equipment that is up in that area. it's unclear how the equipment caught fire. we understand there is power lines involved here because pg&e has called in. also have calls into the fire department. the plant as well. working to get more information on exactly what has caught fire here. but we are being kept a good distance away from it. we will try to gather more information and be back later on in the show. alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news. >>> two-year-old boy and his mother are listed in stable condition after getting shot last nigh
home game in nine months. >> complete bay area news coverage starts right now. this is ktvu mornings on 2. >> welcome to mornings on two. >> it's thursday january 24th. happening right now crews in marin are busy cleaning up after a big water main break. it was first reported shortly after two this morning. paul chambers first reporter on the scene and joins us now. its right near sir francis drake boulevard. >> reporter: access is really busy. this area is more residential but there are a lot of cars passing through. you can see the repair crews just arrived on scene with in the last five minutes. basically they are getting ready to do a lot of repairing. things are under control with the water main break but there will be a lot of clean up. let's look at video. this all started at 2:15 when the fire department got a call of water flooding a roadway. once on scene firefighters say the water was jetting out at least eight feet in the air. crews were able to get a handle on the situation by shutting off a nearby valve. it's unclear if someone hit a fire hydrant or if it just gave w
